Artificial streams detected on Spotify – clarification needed

Hi iMusician Community,

I’ve received a message on Spotify for Artists saying that artificial streams have been detected on my music. As a result, the public monthly listener count on my artist profile has been reduced, although the private stats still show the original data.

I want to clarify that I have not used any paid stream-boosting services or anything similar. I’ve only listened to my own album like 5 times because I enjoy it, but never in a loop, only like 2 times max, and never in a excessive way. I also haven’t been part of any suspicious playlists, at least not intentionally.

Could someone from the community or the iMusician team explain whether any automatic promotion or playlist placement might have triggered this? Or if there’s any way to contact Spotify through iMusician to resolve or understand this better?

Thanks in advance for your help and clarification.

Best regards, Freakae

Hey @Freak,

Very sorry to hear this… Unfortunately Spotify doesn’t consider whether the stream-boosting was intentional or not. If they detect any suspicious activity, they will automatically apply penalties and deduct and “illegitimate” stream from your total count as this violates their terms of service

It could be that your music was included in a bot playlist or was streamed non-organically by malevolent users. In any case, as a distributor we’re only able to share with you Spotify’s data and revenue. We don’t have any role in the monetization of your streams and therefore, any decision taken by the platform on that regard can unfortunately not be challenged.

For future reference, please report any suspicious playlist immediately to Spotify with their dedicated form: Login - Spotify
