Can iMusician request my Youtube Release - Topic channel become an Artist - Topic channel?

Hi,

Carlos was quite helpful to me in another post, but I had a question about one of his responses. He mentioned that since YouTube has only created a Release - Topic channel for me and not an Artist - Topic channel yet, that I cannot apply for a YouTube OAC yet.

However, in the following article referencing the topic, it states that “If you don’t have an Artist – Topic channel yet, you can still submit your request by providing your EAN/UPC code. In this case, we will first request the creation of your Artist – Topic channel before submitting your Official Artist Channel application to YouTube.”

So I just wanted to confirm, if I subscribe to one of the AMPLIFY tiers, can I submit the form to iMusician requesting a YouTube OAC (assuming my personal YouTube channel meets all the other requirements), or do I need to wait till YouTube creates the Artist - Topic channel themselves before I can submit that form and initiate the process?

And if I do submit, and iMusician requests the creation of an Artist - Topic channel prior to requesting the OAC, how long does it typically take for YouTube to create the Artist - Topic channel and/or is it guaranteed that at some point YouTube will do it, or is it still dependent on how well my tracks do in YouTube’s algorithm before they will create the Artist - Topic channel and make me eligible to apply for the OAC?

Thank you for your time in clarifying this. My apologies if this is answered elsewhere in your documentation. I wasn’t able to find it myself.

hi @mikegrimm7 , I’m forwarding your question to @Melani from the Team :v:

Hello @mikegrimm7, the Artist Topic Channel is automatically created by YouTube itself after one release gets delivered.

The creation of the OAC can take weeks, depending on the volume of requests.

Thanks for the response, Melani. To clarify, my topic channel is showing up as a Release - Topic Channel, not an Artist - Topic Channel. Carlos was mentioning I needed to wait for YouTube to switch my Release - Topic channel to an Artist - Topic channel before I submit for the OAC, but then the help article I linked above mentioned I can submit anytime.

Hey, yes @mikegrimm7 that’s correct! The release topic is auto-generated URL and it is how YouTube delivers music online.

YouTube will also create your Artist Topic channel after 2/3 releases.

Which goes back to my original question. Assuming I am subscribed to AMPLIFY, can I submit for an OAC via iMusician if I only have a Release - Topic page right now? Or do I need to wait till YouTube creates an Artist - Topic page for me? Or does the application process via iMusician trigger YouTube to convert my Release - Topic page into an Artist - Topic channel that can then be merged into my personal channel as an OAC?

Hopefully that makes sense.

hey @mikegrimm7,

Yes, if you have an active AMPLIFY subscription, you can submit your OAC request even if your releases are currently only available under a Release - Topic channel.

Once the process is completed and approved by YouTube, your Artist - Topic channel and your personal YouTube channel will be consolidated into your Official Artist Channel .

Please keep in mind that you must also meet the other OAC requirements, including having at least one release distributed through iMusician and at least one music-related video uploaded to your personal YouTube channel.

You can find the full requirements and instructions here: [iMusician – How to Get an Official Artist Channel on YouTube]

Thank you Maurizio! Appreciate that clarity. Yes, I meet all the other requirements, so I’ll sign up for Amplify here soon and kick off this process. Thanks again!
