Duplicate Spotify Artist Profile Created – Need Album Moved to Correct Profile

Hi iMusician team,

I’ve recently uploaded a new album for one of my music projects. The release has successfully passed the initial checks.

However, instead of being linked to the existing Spotify artist profile, a new (duplicate and empty) Spotify artist profile with the same name was created.

I kindly ask you to:

  • Move the upcoming release (scheduled for April 30th) to the correct existing Spotify artist profile.

  • Remove the duplicate Spotify artist profile that was mistakenly created.

Please let me know if you need the correct Spotify Artist URI or any other information to process this.

Hey @dgtldtrt,

Unfortunately at this stage it’s not possible to correct this. We will have to wait for the release to go live and only then will we be able to send a request to Spotify.

In previous cases we’ve tried asking Spotify to correct attribution mistakes before the release is uploaded, but it never works

What can I do in the future to help you avoid this type of mistake?

The project already had four albums distributed through iMusician.
During the upload, I selected the existing profile.

The best way to avoid this by is using an artist name that’s not too generic and that isn’t already used by other people

Sorry Carlos,
but your answer doesn’t make sense—I think you didn’t understand the context.

I’ve already released four albums under that name via iMusician,
so I’m asking what to do to avoid creating duplicate profiles on Spotify when I release through iMusician.

Hey @dgtldtrt,

I totally understand your issue and the context behind it. This is something we have to deal with whenever artists pick a generic name

Whenever you are distributing music on streaming platforms, your artist name plays an important role because it allows the shops to identify which profile the music must be assigned to. If it happens that your artist name is already being used by other people (regardless of the amount of albums you’ve released, it’s still possible), then the shops will get confused and assign your music to the homonymous profiles or create a new one. If this happens, we can then send them a request to correct their mistake.

On your end, you can try to link your artist name to existing Spotify and Apple Music profiles if you already have them (see the steps here) but ultimately the only way to avoid this is choosing an artist name that’s original enough so it’s not being used by other artists already.
