Hello, I’m new to iMusician and I have an important question. I want to migrate from CDBaby and transfer my entire catalog, which is quite extensive. The reason I’m switching distributors is because, without prior notice, my releases have stopped being eligible for monetization through YouTube Content ID. Suddenly, the genre of some of my releases was changed to “Classical,” and it says that this genre is not eligible for monetization. I should mention that my style is folk, and it has nothing to do with that genre. However, they don’t allow me to change it, which is why I want to upload everything to iMusician and cancel distribution with CDBaby.
In iMusician’s FAQ, it says that for a song to be eligible for YouTube Content ID, among other things, the track must not have been previously distributed for CID by another distributor. In this case, I’m unsure if this would be an issue. All my music was indeed distributed by CDBaby, but as of today, it’s no longer monetizing due to the genre change that happened without my permission. My YouTube channel has nearly 8 million views, containing music from my catalog, as well as many other channels featuring that music, and overnight, I can no longer monetize it. That music was distributed by CDBaby, and I was paid regularly for Content ID until very recently. What I want is for that music to be available again on YouTube Content ID. I can’t resolve this through CDBaby, which is why I want to switch to iMusician. I hope that by moving my discography to this new distributor, the issue can be resolved, and I can continue generating revenue. What do you think? Would this solve anything, or would I have the same problem?
On another note, from what I’ve read, in order to make the switch, I first need to cancel distribution with CDBaby and then upload all the original audio files, along with all the metadata, ISRCs, album covers, and so on, to iMusician. I have a very viral song, and I wouldn’t want to lose the statistics on Spotify or the playlists it’s featured in, as they provide me with good revenue. I’m not sure if there would be any issues with this. I’m feeling very confused. Suddenly, I’ve lost the income I use to pay my rent. If someone could shed some light or offer some idea, I’d be extremely grateful. I can’t speak directly with the iMusician team because I don’t yet have an AMPLIFY account. I don’t want to pay for anything until my doubts are resolved.
