Here’s what happened. I chose IMusician to distribute my music back in 2019, because of their customer service and the fact that if you paid a bigger fee, they didn’t take any commission. Fast forward to 2024, I want to cash the royalties I’ve accumulated through the years. Big surprise: IMusician has transformed my royalties as promotional credits and has left me with 6 dollars of royalties (when I had saved almost 80$).
They had changed their conditions a year back I think, and I made sure I still didn’t have a commission fee on my past releases since I never agreed to it AND I paid a higher fee when I decided to work with them to keep 100% of my earnings. But, I never had a heads up that they would TAKE ALL OF MY EARNINGS and turn it into store credit, especially since their new conditions don’t align with my needs. How is that even legal? I would like to have it noted also that I log into my account at least once a year (but usually more often) to check on my releases.
If it’s in their policy, they should be upfront about it and give a heads up when they’re about to change your money into store credit. This is theft and a ploy to put more money in their pockets.
Hello @corinnec,
Thank you for sharing your experience, we greatly appreciate that you took the time to express your concern regarding this. However, I would like to point out that the way you presented your comment is miselading:
- The automatic conversion from Cash Credit to Promotional Credit happens whenever a user doesn’t log into their account for a period of one year. This has always been into effect, even before you created your account with us in 2019.
- Changes in our Terms & Conditions are always notified via e-mail to give you time to adapt. This also applies to major changes & updates such as the switch to our subscription-based offer, which you were notified of in January 2023.
- There has been no activity on your account between 13.11.2020 & 21.05.2024 and the conversion has been done on 30.06.2023, almost a year ago today. If you had logged in during this time, you would have surely informed of this matter way before today.
Now, we understand that this might be frustrating for you and again, we really appreciate that you took the time to share your experience, but everything that you’ve described is clearly stated in the Terms & Conditions you’ve agreed to when you opened your account. Please note that by agreeing to our Terms & Conditions, you have accepted the responsibility to acknowledge and adhere to all the terms included in the contract. It is important to review these terms carefully to ensure you are fully aware of your obligations and rights under this agreement.
Best regards,
