Is a license no longer required for digital distribution of covers?

Hello, I was going to buy a license to distribute one of my covers on digital platforms and the EasySong website says this when you go to buy it:

“You no longer need to obtain cover song licensing specifically for streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. However, most digital distributors (CD Baby, Symphonic, Too Lost, etc.) will require you to obtain a license for digital downloads before using any of their services. This is because their distribution partners include digital download stores, such as iTunes and Amazon MP3, that still require the artist to obtain the necessary licensing.”

Has the law changed, and is it no longer necessary to buy a license to distribute covers on digital platforms? I’m from Spain; is this a global change, or is it only in my country?

Thank you, greetings.

Hey @Raul, licenses are not mandatory for cover versions but artists often confuse edits with covers. In the case of edits (when the original arrangements or liyrics have been changed) it is mandatory to acquire a license
