Migration of my iMusician releases to another distributor

Hello iMusician team,

I am preparing to migrate my releases from iMusician to another distributor, under my new own label.

I have read the FAQ article “I Am Leaving iMusician for Another Distributor. What’s the Procedure?” and I understand that I should keep my ISRCs and barcodes, request takedown when appropriate, wait for remaining revenue, and keep my iMusician account open until all outstanding royalties are reported and paid.

Before I start, I would like to clarify the safest process for my situation.

I currently have several releases distributed through iMusician / iM Electronica (the last of them was even distributed a few days ago, still not officially live). Some releases also have YouTube Content ID activated through iMusician.

My new distributor advised me to upload the releases there first using the same original metadata, ISRCs, UPC/EANs and original release dates, then request takedown from the previous distributor after the new versions are live and the overlap period has passed. They are also aware that some releases currently have YouTube Content ID active through iMusician and advised that they can coordinate the Content ID transition from their side.

I understand that the iMusician FAQ recommends removing releases from shops before redistributing them, so I would like to confirm how to avoid conflicts.

My questions are:

1. Is a short overlap period acceptable while the new versions go live and map correctly across streaming platforms, or do iMusician releases need to be taken down first?

2. For releases currently delivered by iMusician under iM Electronica to Beatport / Juno Download / Traxsource, is there any special procedure if I am moving the releases to my own label through another distributor?

3. For releases with YouTube Content ID active through iMusician, should I request Content ID removal only after the new versions are live and stable, or should this be handled earlier?

4. Once the new versions are live and stable, what is the correct way to request takedown of the iMusician versions from all stores, including Beatport / Juno Download / Traxsource and Content ID services?

5. After takedown, will remaining royalties earned before the takedown continue to be reported and paid out normally as long as I keep my iMusician account open?

The recommended overlap period is 5 days after the new distributor release if you want to keep your streams.

Yes, make sure to disable CID once the other distributor has released the tracks. Then you can enable the CID monetization on their side. Just make sure it’s not enabled on both at the same time.
