New single + a question about Amazon links 🎹

Hello, I’ve released a new single called
“Dreaming of Rio”
by Dimension 8

It’s an instrumental latin-inspired downtempo track. A tribute to the city of Rio de Janeiro.

I have a question about the Amazon music link on my release page.

When I click on it, the Amazon website often says “Not found”. The solution (that most people won’t find) is to press F5 (on Windows). Then we can see the single, but on Amazon Germany (I live in France)…
So I would like to know how this Amazon links behave in different countries. Shouldn’t we replace the links by a US link (Amazon.com), and Amazon would redirect it correctly?

Thank you.

Hello “Dimension 8”

Juan here, from our Product Team.

First of all, congratulations on your release! Me being from Rio might be a bit biased opinion, but nice one!

Regarding Amazon links, it is something we have been struggling to get right for everybody because Amazon is quite special on the way they handle their shop links, either the redirects to the different shops, aka “amazon.com”, “amazon.de”, “amazon.fr”, and to the music service directly, aka “music.amazon.com”, “music.amazon.fr” , “music.amazon.fr”,…

Our link fetching service scans for the album/release using different parameters, according to the shop we’re trying to find, and for Amazon we mostly use the “Release Title” and “Artist name”. Then, as soon as a link is located that matches those parameters, we use it and we would expect Amazon to redirect to the shop the customer needs to visit. We’ve made tests in the past, forcing the system to use the “.com” links, but they were not as succesful as one might think. Many people do not distribute on the US, for legal reasons, and those “.com” links are not “universal”, but related to the US shops, and this would result in a broken page.

That being said, for this specific release, we believe could be a better solution to redirect to https://music.amazon.de/albums/B0FGY78DXH instead of https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0FGY9V9NS, as currently your Release Page has.

I have raised this concern with our backend developers, who are in charge of such decisions but in the meantime, I’ve regenerated mysef your page, to include it. That should make things better.

Feel free to give your feedback after this change.

Have a great day!

Best Regards,

Juan

Hello @Juan ! Thank you for this very detailed answer. I understand the problem.
I have just tried the new link with Google Chrome and Edge, after clearing the cache. And that works better! No error message. The site is in German but it’s not a barrier, one can understand what it’s about. And Germany is a big market for music :grinning:

Thank you also for your (biased  ) appreciation about the track. This music really came to me while dreaming about your beautiful city. There is this wonderful statue (partly French!), the beaches, the music, etc. It’s a myth.
Here is a small video I have created to illustrate the track (I hope I am allowed to share it here) :

Thank you again, and don’t hesitate to give me more advice if you think I need it.

All the best

Thank you so much for sharing Emmanuel

I started the day almost with tears on my eyes. It is really a beautiful place! Such a shame that external factors make it, at least for me and my family, unsuitable for long-term living but I really hope that everyone is able to visit it during their lifetime as it is magical, definitely.

Yes, in Europe we also have many cities which are beautiful to visit (Paris, London…) but for some reasons I wouldn’t want to live there. Sorry for the tears

Best regards
