No genre assignment spotify

Hi, I have a question,or rather, a problem. I released my first track via iMusician, and so far, so good, it’s online on plattorms, where it’s supposed to be. But unfortunately, on Spotify, where you can extract the metadata using various programs that have access to the API,unlike all the other tracks by other artists in my personal playlist, there’s no genre assignment.

I don’t think that’s ideal, and it really shouldn’t be that way, right? Attached is proof that a genre (German Hip-Hop) was specified on iMusician, plus a collage of two random tracks and my track “Schlaflos?” in the middle of the collage. The other two are assigned to a genre as usual, but mine isn’t. I checked about 50 other tracks, they all had a genre assignment, but mine didn’t. How is that possible? Thanks for your help .

Hello @resa.wav, Spotify is not displaying the genre unless the track gets into a genre-specific playlist. The genre is metadata that is stored at the release and track level, and only certain platforms display such information.

I will send a request to Spotify but we can not guarantee that the genre will be displayed on other parties/websites.

Best,

OK, thanks @Melani . Just so I’m not misunderstood: I’m aware that Spotify itself never directly displays a genre. I’m referring to sites like Skilley, Trackify, and many others that access the metadata stored on Spotify, not just genre, but also things like energy, danceability, etc.
Here are two example images; my track is included as well in one picture. This is data that these sites retrieve from the Spotify API, so it’s not added by the site itself—it’s Spotify metadata that Spotify uses, for example, for its algorithm.

That’s why it’s naturally the same everywhere, no matter which tool you use. Out of my more than 3,000 favorite songs, only 3 don’t have a genre listed in the metadata.

Sorry if it was already clear what I meant—I just wanted to play it safe to make sure I wasn’t misunderstood  Best regards, and have a great day

Hey @resa.wav thanks a lot for the explanation and it definitely makes sense!

We deliver all the metadata include in one release, and it might be difficult to intervene on the API side, as we do not have control over. Besides, the information in the last screenshot is most likely based on AI valutation, that is becoming popular on Spotify.
I’ve raised this issue with our quality team and we will check further.

Thanks for raising this!
