Release not received by Spotify

Hi there,

I received the confirmation email about my next release Hide and Seek was set to be sent to platforms 2 weeks ago, but Spotify tells me they haven’t received it yet.

Could you please take a look, as the release date is approaching and I need to make the Spotify Pitching urgently?

Thanks!

Hey @Royal,

Delivery is getting rejected by DSPs because your artist name is too generic. I already told you that continuing to use this name will cause issues: I see my artist name has been changed by no reason - #3 by Carlos

Our team will look into it. Hopefully they’ll find a way to sort this out.

Best,

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for looking into this. I’m a little confused about the issue, as I already have an established artist profile under the name Royal on the relevant DSPs, with its own artist URLs, and my previous releases were successfully delivered under the same artist name.

Could you please clarify which DSPs are rejecting the delivery and what specific error they are returning?

Also, does this mean that I need to change my artist name, or are you looking for additional information to correctly match Hide and Seek to my existing artist profiles? I believe changing my artist name now would create additional problems.

I’d really appreciate some clarification, as I need to submit the release for Spotify editorial pitching and the release date is approaching.

Best,
Royal

Platforms that already have existing homonyms and that struggle with the name distinctiveness.

We’re trying to solve with your current name but this problem will occur everytime you release new tracks.

Not as many as keeping it.

The artist name you’re using is preventing the delivery. If you don’t want this problem, use a less generic name as I’ve already suggested multiple times.

Best,

Hi Carlos,

I understand that there are other artists using the name Royal and that this may cause disambiguation issues with some DSPs.

However, before I make a permanent change to my artist name, I need to understand exactly what the consequences and available solutions are.

Could you please confirm:
1.Which specific DSPs are currently rejecting the delivery?
2.What is the exact error or reason given by those DSPs?
3.Have you attempted to deliver Hide and Seek using the existing artist/profile IDs associated with my Royal profiles?
4.If I keep the name Royal, is there any way for future releases to be correctly matched to my existing artist profiles?
5.If changing the name is the only viable solution, can you confirm that my existing catalogue, artist profiles, streams, followers, playlists and release history can be transferred/updated to the new name without creating a new artist profile?

I understand your recommendation, but this is not simply a branding decision for me. Royal is my family name and the name I have used socially since I was a child, so changing it is a significant decision. I therefore need to understand exactly what is technically required before proceeding.

Thank you.

Royal

@Royal we managed to deliver your release EAN 4071624197205. However, this is already the second time we run into issues during deliveries because of your artist name.

Our recommendation to change your name is to prevent those issues. We understand this is a big change for you but if you really want to avoid mapping errors and blockages from the DSPs, that’s the best option. As a distributor we try to help you, but the decision is yours ultimately.

If you decide to change your artist name, new profiles will be created.

Best,

Hi Carlos,

Thank you for your help and for managing to deliver the release successfully. I really appreciate the effort you’ve made to get it through, especially considering the issues you’ve encountered with the artist name.

I understand your recommendation and I appreciate that, ultimately, the decision is mine. However, before making such a significant and potentially irreversible change, I would still like to clarify a few points from my previous message.

You’ve confirmed that changing my artist name would result in new artist profiles being created. Could you please clarify what would happen to my existing catalogue and profiles in that case?
In particular:

1.Would my existing releases, streams, followers, playlists and release history remain associated with my current Royal profiles, or would they be separated from the new artist profiles?

2.Would my existing releases need to be re-uploaded under the new artist name, or can the artist name/profile be changed while keeping the existing releases and their current IDs?

3.Would I lose access to the existing Spotify for Artists / Apple Music for Artists / other DSP artist profiles, or could those profiles be renamed or otherwise transferred to the new artist name?

4.Finally, if I keep the name Royal, is there anything that can be done on future deliveries to consistently map the releases to my existing artist profiles, or would these delivery issues be expected to happen every time?

I completely understand the practical reason behind your recommendation, and I’m not dismissing it. I just want to make sure I fully understand the consequences before making a permanent decision, particularly because Royal is not simply a name I chose for this project — it is the name I have been known by for many years.

Thank you again for your help and for getting this release delivered. I really appreciate it.

Best,

Royal

If you don’t change those, yes they’ll stay exactly as they are now.

You’ll need to take them down and re-upload them with new EAN barcodes.

New profiles will be created and you will have to re-request access to those. You won’t lose access to profiles you’ve already claimed.

The delivery issues are expected to happen every time.

Best,
