Spotify is linking another composer with the same name

Hello! My song has been released on Spotify, but in the SongDNA, the Main Artist is correct, but they are showing another person who has the exact same full name as me for Composer / Lyricist / Programming. I spoke to Spotify and they said this issue needs to be solved on the Distributor side, but it’s not clear what the process is for this. This is also an issue on Apple Music and I presume everywhere else.

In order to solve this, please refer to the page below and fill out the corresponding forms. Although it mentions “Artists”, it will also work for composers :slight_smile:

Hi @Carlos - thanks for getting back to me.

Would it be easier if I just changed the name I’m using for Composer etc. to an alias (ie. my first name and middle name) and register this alias with SOCAN (I’m Canadian)?. The reason I ask that I’m worried this is just going to happen every time I release anything since this other guy has the exact same name as me.

Hey @spectorhythm,

Yes this could be useful, but you would have to register your song as well so we can make sure the credits align with the data from SOCAN.

Also, I would suggest you look into getting an ISNI number, which you can link to your contributor name in the iMusician dashboard:

This number will help distinguish your name from your homonyms :slight_smile:

If I’m understanding correctly, It sounds like the best path is to:

  1. Make an ISNI for the new name (my legal first name and middle name, no last name).
  2. Push new metadata for the song out to all platforms with the new name for composer and the other applicable fields.

Is this correct? If so, what is the process to change the metadata?

Thanks, @Carlos. After doing some reading, i think just leaving my full legal name (Jeremy Gilman) and also linking the ISNI should solve the problem on Spotify / Apple (and hopefully anywhere else). I submitted a modification request with the new ISNI and also mentioned the purpose is to break the link with the other guy.
