Switching Multiple Artists from DistroKid to iMusician – How to Handle Beatport Catalog Transfer?

Hello everyone,

I currently have four artists on DistroKid and I’m planning to switch my label to iMusician. I also have my catalog on Beatport (I haven’t started using Traxsource yet). According to iMusician, I need to contact support to initiate the “Label Switch,” but I wanted to ask the community for advice first.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone here successfully moved multiple artists from DistroKid to iMusician? How did the process go?
  2. What’s the best way to handle the Beatport catalog transfer to ensure there are no interruptions or issues?
  3. Are there any tips for speeding up the approval from the current distributor?
  4. Any common pitfalls or things to watch out for when performing a Label Switch for multiple artists at once?

I appreciate any insights or step-by-step advice you can share!

Additional information:

To clarify my situation: I currently have 4 artists distributed via DistroKid. For now, I only intend to cancel the Beatport option within DistroKid and manage Beatport (and Traxsource) for my existing catalog through iMusician instead. All other platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) will remain with DistroKid at this stage.

At a later point, I plan to move all future releases entirely to iMusician.

Hey @DRUMATIX, thanks for reaching out

The first thing we need to do is the label transfer so we can start distributing your music on Beatport. Could you please share the link to your label pages on Beatport so our team can forward a request to Distrokid?

In parallel, you can already let them know that they will receive the request from us and that they should approve the transfer as soon as possible.

Important note: We cannot begin distributing music on your label page until the request is approved by your previous distributor. Once the request is accepted, we can proceed with the distribution.

Hello,

Thank you for your response. I have a few important clarifications before proceeding with the label transfer:

  1. Regarding the label name:
My four artists are distributed under different labels (all of them are my own labels and sub-labels). However, the labels themselves do not have separate Beatport accounts. Only the artist pages exist on Beatport.
In this case, should I provide the four artist page links instead of label page links? How is the label transfer handled if there is no standalone Beatport label account?
  2. Regarding partial distribution split:
    My intention is the following:
  • I only want to cancel the Beatport option within DistroKid.
  • I want to manage Beatport (and Traxsource) for my past releases via iMusician instead.
  • All other platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) should remain with DistroKid for now.
  • At a later stage, I plan to distribute all new releases entirely via iMusician. Is this split-distribution setup technically possible without causing conflicts between distributors?
  1. Alternative approach:
Instead of performing a label transfer, could I simply remove Beatport delivery from DistroKid and then re-upload all releases to iMusician using the same ISRCs and UPCs?
What would happen in that case regarding:
  • chart history
  • sales history
  • label page continuity
  • potential duplicate content issues

I would like to fully understand the correct procedure before initiating the transfer request with DistroKid.

Thank you very much for your guidance.

Best regards

Yes you can share those and we’ll see what we can do.

It’s fine as long as you don’t distribute the same content on the same stores through two different distributors at the same time.

No because on Beatport, your tracks are linked to a specific label and if you want to keep your previous metadata (ISRC, UPC and by extent the label) then it is mandatory to switch the label’s ownership from the previous distributor to the new one.

Subject: Confirmation Needed: Beatport Transfer Only – Add Stores Later

Hello iMusician Support,

I am planning to register a paid account with you for my four artists. However, before I proceed, I need a clear assurance that only the Beatport delivery will be handled by you. All other platforms (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music) should remain with DistroKid. I only want to transfer Beatport (and later potentially Traxsource) to iMusician, not the full catalog.
Before I create my account and add the four artists, could you confirm that this setup is possible? Additionally, once the Beatport transfer is completed and my catalog is fully migrated to iMusician, I would like to know: can I add additional stores afterward (e.g., Traxsource) to releases that have already been uploaded? Can I assign new shops to previously distributed releases?
Once I have this confirmation, I will immediately send the email to DistroKid, register my account with the four artists, and proceed with the transfer. I have already listed the artist links below for your reference.
I truly appreciate your support and help. Once I have your confirmation, I will proceed right away.
Thank you so much!
Best regards,

Yes this is possible.

Yes of course.

Regarding the artist profiles you’ve shared, I see that most of them are linked to Distrokid’s label. In this case you don’t need to make a label switch, so just ask Distrokid to proceed with the takedown and then recreate the releases on your iMusician dashboard.

When you recreate the releases, you can choose to use your own custom label name (but in this case you will have to register it first in order for Beatport to approve your music) or you can also use our label iM Electronica which is already registered if you want to skip this process.
