Uploading as multiple artists and labels (custom label on Beatport)

Hi there, I have a few questions around releasing music under multiple artists and labels through iMusician as well as when using Beatport.

On AMPLIFY+ can I release music under more than one artist profile for $100 per year (annual plan)?

Can I also choose which label to be listed for each release? E.g. one is JC Records, the next one may be ‘ABC Records’?

If I create my custom label as ‘123 Records’ on Beatport, I assume I can list that on my releases through Spotify, etc. too.

I searched on Beatport for my name (James Curtis) and only found an artist listed called Curtis James. Can I assume I’ll probably be okay getting a page listed simply as James Curtis?

Lastly, once the custom label is created on Beatport my main artist there will be myself. Let’s say for example I also have an alias as a Dubstep producer. Can I upload new songs through both artists to my custom label on Beatport as well as spotify, apple music?

Thanks!
James

Hello @jamescurtis,

  1. Yes

  2. Yes, but make sure to register the label with Beatport and Traxsource if you want to distribute your music there. More info here: How To Distribute On Electronic Music Shops? | iMusician

  3. Yes, it’s the same label for all the platforms.

  4. Yeah, should be ok.

  5. No, releases can only be assigned to one artist (unless it’s a compilation or there are featurings). Since both names are yours, you cannot credit yourself twice on the same release, so it’s either one or the other.

Hope this helps

Hi Carlos, thanks for taking the time to answer these, I appreciate it!

I think I worded my last question a bit poorly. What I mean is this:

e.g. I create ‘ABC Records’ as my custom label on Beatport.

I release a house track as a single on Beatport under my artist name James Curtis.

– Can I release a separate track later on to ABC Records under a different artist name (e.g. a disco track by ‘Disco Dave’)? I assume the other artist needs to have a Beatport profile firstly.
–I guess this is basically asking if I want to release singles by artists who agree to release through my custom label on Beatport can I do that?
–Following on from that, let’s say ‘Disco Dave’ has his own Spotify page and releases music on there. Can he release that same Beatport track on to his own Spotify page himself?

I’m sure it’ll be even clearer when I sign up and start using your services but I just want to have some understanding before I do and how it works for uploading with multiple artists.

Thanks!

Hello @jamescurtis,

  1. “Can I release a separate track later on to ABC Records under a different artist name (e.g. a disco track by ‘Disco Dave’)? I assume the other artist needs to have a Beatport profile firstly.”
→ Yes, you can have different artists under the same label name. The artist doesn’t need to have an artist page beforehand (the platform will create one when they release the track).

  2. “I guess this is basically asking if I want to release singles by artists who agree to release through my custom label on Beatport can I do that?”
    → Yes.

  3. “Following on from that, let’s say ‘Disco Dave’ has his own Spotify page and releases music on there. Can he release that same Beatport track on to his own Spotify page himself?”
→ Yes, but only if the track is not already on Spotify (so you cannot release it there on behalf of ‘Disco Dave’).

Hi Carlos,

I’m doing some final due dilligence, and am going back and forth between the artist name I want to use.

I would like to use ‘DJ Jay Cee’ as my artist name for electronic releases, on Beatport. I saw DJ JC was already taken and there isn’t currently a DJ Jay Cee on Beatport. However, I did see that there is already a ‘DJ Jaycee’ and ‘Jay Cee’.

https://www.beatport.com/search?q=DJ%20Jay%20Cee

Do you forsee potential problems with me trying to claim DJ Jay Cee as an artist name / page on Beatport? May they ask me to include my country code after the name, e.g. DJ Jay Cee CA

Thanks,
James

Hello @jamescurtis,

“DJ Jay Cee” and “DJ Jaycee” are very similar, which might cause issues when assigning your music to the correct profile. To avoid any potential issues, I would recommend choosing an original name that isn’t already taken by another artist/looks almost identical to one that already exists.
